In 2011, I attended the Fargo Great Plains Young Professional Summit and had chosen a breakout session focusing on international business the impact it has on our state. This session completely inspired me to go outside of my ND box (keep in mind I haven't ever been out of the country including Canada). I knew that Rotary offered a Group Study Exchange program for young professionals to experience a unique cultural and vocational visit in a selected foreign country for a five week period. This program provides the opportunity to experience the host country's culture and institutions, observe how their vocations are practiced abroad, develop personal and professional relationships, and exchange ideas. I thought to myself that I have to give this a shot! I applied, was interviewed and selected as part of a six member team that traveled to Tasmania, Australia, in May of 2012 for five weeks. It was definitely an amazing life changing experience for me on so many levels and has opened my mind to new possibilities. So in the words of Audrey Hepburn "Nothing is impossible, the word itself says ‘I'm possible'!"

Monica Norby attended the Summit in 2010. She came all the way from California to participate! Here is what she had to say about her experience at the Summit:
"I attended the summit to learn about opportunities and network in the fast evolving state of North Dakota. The summit did that and more; it was phenomenal. The summit was relevant, thought provoking, and motivating."
Monica now lives in Velva, ND.
Check out what others have said about past GPYP Summits:
"I was very impressed with the speakers and the program at this summit. It really hit the mark on professional development and it was great to be able to meet new people from around the state."
"The summit was a good chance to hear from accomplished professionals and learn about what they have learned over their professional careers. It was also nice to meet people from many different types of business backgrounds."
"The summit was everything I thought it would be and more. The program was phenomenal and I would not have attended if there hadn't been such interesting and well respected presenters. The summit allowed space to talk about and reflect on personal and professional goals, which are rarely focused on. I appreciated connecting with others in ND and what their vision is of this state's future."
"As a new YP member, it was my first event, and it blew me away. I was so impressed with the caliber of speakers and the atmosphere of the entire event."
"This was one of the best conferences I have ever attended, it was coordinated very professionally and the program was awesome."
The GPYP Summit has been hosted in various locations throughout the state giving YP's from all areas a chance to connect, learn and lead. Check out some of our Summit fun facts!
